Dummy traffic police to speed-check
It is reported quite often that when considering most drivers in Sri Lanka are found to drive their vehicle only when they are aware that the police are on their alert and to the contrary when not. For this very attitude some drivers have resorted to driving at a hectic speed as and how they wish where they assume is no police supervision and as a result it has contributed towards an increase in traffic accidents, daily. To avoid being detected on police speedometer, there are drivers who on spotting a
policeman tend to lessen their speed.
As an alternative for this, it has been decided to erect a dummy portraying the dummy of a traffic policemen on duty, everywhere round the country. Shown in the photograph here are some such dummies erected along Puttalam - Colombo road. Whatever it is, what police say is that these dummies would not be erected by the side of the road to stand in a solitary manner as such. Even if those are fixed, police officers too would be moving about the place.
