Customs officers assaulted and in hospital!
Reason? Delay to release dog belonging to couple
A Kuwait couple who arrived in Katunayaka Airport today on a flight bringing their dog with them with the intention of touring the country. On such an occasion the dog concerned has to be subjected to a particular type of check by the customs according to relevant animal laws and regulations. Kuwait national has reprimanded the customs officers now and again for the delay in releasing their pet dog even having been patient for so many hours. Anyway after some hours passed by he was not satisfied with the replies given by the customs officers and had resorted to aiming whatever came into his hands at the customs officers.
On this occasion other officers who came to their rescue too were assaulted in the same way and finally five customs officers had to be admitted to hospital for treatment. Sunil Jayaratna, the customs spokesman said that the officers concerned were admitted to Negombo Hospital.
What the customs media spokesman said was that this couple who came to this country had tried to go out from the airport by taking the dog by force and that in order to prevent them doing so five customs officers and the deputy customs director had tried to prevent this on which occasion the assault had taken place. Subsequent to the assault the said couple was taken into custody.
