Act of severing 80 year old elder sister's neck
and 75 year old brother dying by hanging ...
suspected as an outsider's work
The phenomenon of severing the neck of 80 year old sister while on bed in the home at Retiyala, Govinna, Bulthsinghala and the 75 year old brother dying by hanging himself behind the house on a rambuttan tree had by now resulted in many suspicious factors cropping up in the process.
It was Pimburage Lily Nona (80) who was subjected to her neck being cut while it was her brother (75) named Pimburage Gunasiri a bachelor. A page of her clinic book on police investigation a letter was found written and it read like this: "Now malli can't see with one eye. The sight of the other eye
too is weak. He can't do anything. I who write this am unable to write because I am bedridden. I am doing this because it's a burden to others. Don't let them be concerned", and severing the neck of a woman who writes a story of this type and being murdered has now become a puzzle.
Police say that it was revealed at initial inquiries that it was the related daughter and neighbours who looked after the welfare of the deceased woman and her brother who were found dead in two small rooms towards the rear of their elder brother's daughter's house, at the time they were living. The woman who died with her neck being cut was bedridden because of an accident she faced some months ago and she was expected to be escorted to be taken for treatment to a physician in Maradankadawela day-before-yesterday, police say. For this reason, it was revealed from a statement given by the relative daughter that she had bathed both of them and cleaned them up last Friday the 27th. This relative daughter that very night had gone to the town of Bulathsinghala and had returned home and when looking for her punchi amma and maama when what struck her eyes was the scene of the punchi amma reclining on the bed. It was further revealed from the statement she gave that her deceased maama was not to be seen.
On looking for them the following day (28) morning, her statement says that maama was found hanging from a rambuttan tree with a rope tight round his neck and that there was a knife closeby. On checking a stain of blood close to where punchi amma was sleeping she had seen some blood dripping from punchi amma's neck region and she had informed the police about it, the statement given by the relative daughter further states. On her statement the police officers had visited the place and on investigation, one police officer said that a letter was found in the deceased's clinic book where treatment for her ailing condition was recorded.
Matugama additional magistrate Mr. Prasad Imbulgoda surveyed the dead bodies and the place of the crime and instructed the judicial medical officer to conduct a post-mortem and a report be forwarded. A police investigation is underway to ascertain whether the handwriting of the suspected letter supposed to have been written by her is genuine.
