Muslim community protests in front of Kollupitiya mosque last night at 12.30
The Muslim community who gathered opposite Kollupitiya mosque when curfew was declared in Kandy yesterday had been travelling towards Temple Trees and had finally forwarded their appeals to the government indicating their woes that peace be safeguarded to people belonging to their community and
that in case a large crowd would come to Kandy and create trouble once again, they will be left helpless having nothing to do, they said.
They pointed out that there is no leadership to handle what is taking place within society at present and pleaded that action be taken against pressure that is taking place right along and to provide security.
In the process and in the face of the agitated situation which emerged last afternoon in Teldeniya area in Digana, Kandy after this protest, Minister for Law and Order, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasingha has had an emergency dialogue with representatives of Jamiyathul Ulama Organisation last midnight at Temple Trees, it is understood. They had requested the Premier that steps be taken to confirm security of the Muslim community. Video of the protest launched in front of the mosque, from below
