"Carried bomb in bus with intention of committing suicide" - - Sergeant major confesses
The sergeant major who was seriously wounded from the Diyatalawa bomb blast has actually planned to bring the bomb to Kahagolla Army Camp where he was attached to and then had plans of exploding it. the bomb had been hidden in his home because he had been depressed over a
loan of Rs. 20 lakhs with which he was pressurised to pay back, it was confessed by him to the police. All this was exposed by him at the time he was under treatment at the Intensive Care Unit at Diyatalawa Basic Hospital and when under special security.
Day-before-yesterday (28) afternoon officers of Diyatalawa Police had interrogated him at length and what he has said was that the said bomb was one found in Mullaitiv in the year 2015. The sergeant major further confessed that this hand-bomb was found at a parking lot where LTTE were vehicles were parked and later he had hidden it in a jungle area and had finally brought it with him to his home in 2017 in Matale. He had put the bomb which he hid at home in his travelling bag and was bringing it to Kahagolla Army Camp and while getting off the bus it had exploded, he had confessed in the presence of the police officers.
He had said that after committing suicide he would be free from his debts and since his wife would get his salaries he had come to this decision, he had confessed during interrogation. The police officers have questioned his wife yesterday about this. Police say that this sergeant major was a father of 3 children. Under the supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Badulla District, Mr. C.A. Premashantha and Mr. Sudath Masingha of Bandarawela Division and on instructions and directions of Officer-in-Charge of Diyatalawa Police Mr. Harry Halpita, future inquiries are pending.
