Doesn't matter ... asbestos not banned; let's import from Russia -- Cabinet decision

The cabinet has decided to dismiss the decision of banning asbestos roofing which was to take effect from year 2018. Equally so, steps have been taken by the Cabinet to look into the standard of asbestos raw material imported to Sri Lanka and a committee has been appointed for that purpose. The Cabinet
has further discussed that if asbestos below the standard is to be imported, action would be taken in such cases. It was on August 29, 2015 that it was decided to ban asbestos in 2018, President Maithripala Sirisena mentioned. It was mentioned on this occasion that this decision was arrived at as it was detected that this decision is taken because of the onset of cancer is more vulnerable across asbestos. Corresponding to the decision to remove the ban on asbestos, the ban imposed by the Russian government to impose a ban on Sri Lankan tea too would be lifted and this point was focused attention upon by the Cabinet.
