"Agreed to pay 15 to assassinate Jeyaraj ... but paid only 7 1/2" -- says police superintendent
The legal case regarding the incident where Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle and 16 others were killed having succumbed to a bomb blast of a suicide bomber in the year 2008 near Weliweriya Kanthi playground is being heard in courts and a
special point of interest was revealed in the process.
A former member of the Tiger Movement, Mohammed Ali Hassan Anser gave evidence in the presence of courts saying that although he was promised to be paid a sum of Rs. 15 lakhs for assassinating Minister Jeyaraj Fernandopulle; the then Gampaha Assistant Superintendent of Police, Lakshman Cooray had told him he was remunerated with only 7 and a half lakhs.
The Attorney General had filed indictments to terrorist leader Selvaraja Thirubakaran alias Morris, the then Assistant Superintendent of Police, Lakshman Cooray and a Tiger member by the name of Thanbiah alias Danush under 31 charges in relation to these killings.
The former Tiger terrorist Ali Hassan Anser testifying in this court case recently has said, "I was taken into custody for a terrorist activity. When I was directed to a terrorist investigation camp in the year 2007 Morris was was there already arrested. I became friendly with Morris. Lakshman Cooray also was there. They told me everything, even personal matters. They spoke about the Minister Jeyaraj assassination also. They said that it was one Sathyam, a Tiger member. Told also about a monetary transaction about the murder of Minister Jeyaraj. Morris said that he got 15 lakhs. Lakshman Cooray said that he got only 7 and a half lakhs. Morris then said, 'that's how our dealings are". The case is to be heard once again on January 9th and 16th.
