to pave the way for Vimukthi?
Become Colombo's Chief Minister?
Former President Chandrika Kumarathunga has been appointed for the position of Electoral Organiser for the Attanagalla Seat. The appointment was made last Thursday afternoon at President's House, Fort with the President presiding for the move of allotting Seats and positions as District Organisers of Sri Lanka
Freedom Party, creating some demur within the SLFP.
There was no discussion earlier among Party leaders about appointing Chandrika for the position of Organiser of Attanagalla. Therefore news of her appointment resulted in perturbation within the SLFPers. "Should ask Duminda!" was the response given in this connection to the media by a stalwart of the SLFP.
Because of this matter coming into attention, the rumour about Vimukthi Kumarathunga stepping into Politics had gained a new life. What the General Secretary of the United People's Freedom Alliance Mr. Mahinda Amaraweera told the government secret service was that there was no discussion before about Chandrika being appointed as the Organiser for Attanagalla and that as is unaware of it. What some others said was that Chandrika may assume the position of Chief Minister from where she originally started.
This new reorganisation system has commenced targeting the local government elections scheduled to be held in January. Whatever it is, it is of special significance to note that Mahindananda Aluthgamage, Kumara Welgama and Piyankara Jayaratna who work in alliance with United Opposition would have to forego their positions as Electoral Organisers.
