Sarana, Duminda, Anusha, Lalith get set in Ward 3 -- taste Chinese got down from Rajagiriya 'Shandon!'

Anusha and Lalith who were imprisoned because of 'the sil' cloth fraud, Duminda who was sent to jail because of the Bharatha murder and Sarana who was imprisoned because of various charges of corruption are spending their time these days in Welikada Prison Ward 3. This place which has been named as the Luxury Ward in prison jargon is well-known as the place where prisoners enjoy

heavenly bliss instead of misery in prison.

Anusha and Lalith though sentenced to rigorous imprisonment, they were transferred to the hospital ward even before 24 hours elapsed having received doctor-recommendations for suffering from enlargement of liver and diabetes. The two of them who were in a somewhat serious health condition had their lunch day-before-yesterday as if they had no ailment at all, news sources reveal. In fact they have had Crystal Rice with Chinese Chpsuey and Devilled Chicken as their lunch brought down from a super Chinese restaurant known as 'Shandon' Restaurant situated in Rajagiriya. These meals were large enough that even 18 inmates of prison could consume it, it was later revealed.

Prisoners subjected to punishment are not permitted to take meals from outside even when in prison hospital. Remand prisoners of course on the sanction of the chief lady doctor and that of prison officials could get down meals from home when at the prison hospital. 34 permits had been issued for lunch day-before-yesterday (9) and over 130 inmates at prison hospital undergoing prison terms have received their meals that way.

After this revelation, Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayaka with his accomplices had engaged in a protest in front of Welikada Prison in connection with injustice meted out to prisoners. Minister of Prison Rehabilitation, Mr. D.M. Swaminadan who arrived at the place said at that moment that he would look into the matter of this matter of bringing down Chinese food and consuming them. In the same way last evening itself a suuden check up was launched at Ward 3 and everal prohibited items were found inside the ward. Though 2 mobile phones and 2 SIM cards were located ; there had been no owners for those, it was reported.
