Member of Parliament Mr. Wimal Weeravansha who was taken into custody this afternoon by the Financial Crimes Investigation Department was ordered to be remanded until January 24th by Fort Magistrate Court. The Fort Magistrate announced this decision after taking into consideration

the 'B' Report forwarded by the Police Financial Crimes Division.

Wimal Weeravansha arrested!

Leader of Jathika Nidahas Peramuna Mr. Wimal Weeravansha after having been interrogated today by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Department was subsequently taken into custody.

He had arrived at the Financial Crimes Investigation Department this morning (10) to give a statement in relation to an incident of having misappropriated vehicles of the State at the time he was

the Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities. He had arrived in the company of his confederates Ven. Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero accompanied by others such as Bandula Goonawardena, Namal Rajapaksa, Johnston Fernando, Prasanna Ranatunga, Niroshan Premaratna and Weerakumara Dissanayaka, supporters of the United Opposition group.

He had told the media that preparations were underway to arrest him. Subsequently, exactly as told, he was taken into custody. Wimal Weeravansha who was taken into custody is expected to be produced before Fort Magistrate Court. Prior to this, MP Mr. Wimal was apprehended over the false passport issue in 2016 and before this Wimal's brother too was jailed for a case of misappropriation of vehicles.
