VAT increase upto 15% from today (1). Taxes on telephone charges, health services, milk powder, electrical appliances

Value Added Tax (VAT) and Nation Building Tax amendments would be enforced from today (01) onwards. VAT would be going up from 11% upto 15%.

Cigarettes, liquor, telephone services, electrical appliances, perfumery, jewellery, milk powder, medical fees of health services, specialist consultation medical fees (inclusive of channelling services) and hospital room charges would be brought under the VAT scheme. Whatever it is, electricity bills would not be affected because of amendments to the Nation Building
Tax. In the meantime a list of items not relevant to the VAT too has been listed. They are as follows:
