Police security personnel of Johnston caught while a digging a hidden treasure of King Dutugemunu

In the Moragollagama Mapegamuwa Hatangama area in the Polpithigama police division a police officer had been caught while digging a hidden treasure  belonging to the King Dutugemunu era.The Polpithigama police  and the crime prevention unit of the Nikeveratiya police division had apprehended this police officer along with 11 others on the night of the 13th instant.

It is reported that the police sergeant who had been apprehended has been identified as a security

personnel of the Member of Parliament for the Kurunegala district Johnston Fernando.

This police sergeant who has been arrested is one who is assigned to the Kurunegala police station.The group had been digging the treasure on the pretext of a digging a well.They have had in possession machinery,generator,pipes,tires . ingredients to be used for a tranquil exercise, two motor cycles.three wheeler, saline bottles , a number of medicines and number of equipment's to identify the underground scenes.All these had been taken into police custody.

It is reported that this area is known as Hatangama from the King Dutugemunu era has been identified as a place where gems  surfaces had been found in abundance.These have been clearly established in ancient literature.It is learnt that in the year 2003 at the same place some people had been arrested for the same charge of digging for gems.

The suspects are to be produced before the Mahawa Magistrate.
