Old Boys who assaulted student of Dharmaraja over issue of not cutting hair ... in custody!

In relation to the video displaying an incident where a student was manhandled by several individuals in front of a school in Kandy with a large crowd standing witness to the scene circulated across the social media some days ago subsequently according to police investigations 4 individuals were taken into custody this afternoon. Under these circumstances the story behind this assault came to light in the process.

As reported, it was Kandy Dharmaraja College which happened to be in the background of this

incident. The victim was a student of that school who had got involved in a conflict on a previous occasion with a head prefect of that school. According to school ethics the referred to student had attended school with long hair contradictory to such rules and the head prefect had instructed him to come after getting a haircut. But the student refusing to heed the instructions had engaged in a fracas with the head prefect. The head prefect who was defeated in the fight had to keep his head down in that instance and though he had the opportunity of complaining about this to the school authorities or to any other as such, he had refrained from taking such action and had instead resorted to a course of counteracting the assault on a personal basis. For this purpose he had used the support of 4 Old Boys who had recently left the school. They had been summoned to be present at the school gate when school was over and had pointed at the student concerned and made them take revenge on him.

These students who tried to settle this problem which took place within school premises and without any fear or caring about the hundreds of onlookers were ultimately cordoned because of the video. After this assault was taped on the video and was released across social media, it was possible to identify the faces of those involved in the assault; hence the police were able to apprehend them without any difficulty. The suspected 4 Old Boys who were arrested by Kandy Police are expected to be produced before courts. The related video, from below
