Mahela pilots a walk to raise funds for a cancer hospital
A fund is to be collected from the public to erect a cancer hospital in the vicinity of the Karapitiya hospital in Galle.
n this in order to raise funds a walk has been organised from Jaffna to Dondra on the 06th instant for a period of 28 days.Former cricket captain Mahela Jayawardena had requested the public to cooperate
and join in this worthy exercise.
Mahela Jayawardena has added that on a previous after a similar walk the funds collected had been utilized to construct a cancer hospital in Tellippalai. For this project a sum of about Rupees 700 million is estimated out of which Rupees 150 has already been collected.He had said that the balance sum is anticipated to be collected in this manner.
This project has been organized by the ministry of health and Mahela Jayawardena is taking a key role in its advertising.It is anticipated that this walk would receive the fullest cooperation from the public.
It was the intention of construction a Hope cancer hospital in Maharagama in the name of Mahela some years ago.But owing to the tsunami catastrophe the donors who had promised to contribute had diverted the funds towards the tsunami developmental activities.Hence the Hope project could not be got underway.
