In 2017 Wesak is to be celebrated on an international level-Modi also to participate
The government intends to celebrate the 2017 Wesak full moon day on an international level.The event has been named as the 2017 united nations Wesak celebration event.The event is to be celebrated exclusively on the May 11th, 12th and the 13th instants.
The authorities of the ministry of Buddha Sasana have disclosed that in thi connection a committee
has been appointed under the leadership and guidance of Professor Brahmapandit Thera.It is reported that the committee had met at the hotel Taj Samudra to finalize most of the proposed activities during the Wesak week in May 2017.
The inaugural ceremony is to be held on the 11th May at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall.On the 12th May there is to be a Buddhist cultural show at the Nelum Pokuna Performing Arts Theatre and on the 13th the celebrationr would be at thesummit of the Sri Dalaga Maligawain Kandy.
It is intended to invite the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.for the initial ceremony.All other leaders of Buddhist countries in the Saarc region and in other Buddhist countries are also to be invited.
The organizing of the entire Wesak week celebrations would be entrusted to the Mahanayake theras,President and the Ministers under the supervision of the Minister of Buddha Sasana Wijedasa Rajapaksa.This was revealed by the officials of the Buddha Sasana ministry.
