Details about the 12 students who claimed the first topmost 12 positions at the Grade 5 Scholarship received yesterday are published here.
Sithija Niran Samarawickrema from Methodist College, Urugamuwa of Dikwella Education District is the second son of Priyantha Samarawickrema and P.M. Harshika Erandi living in Hakalamulla. He is a child who follows his education amidst financial difficulties. His father is employed as a Storekeeper at Weeraketiya Co-operative Society and the mother is not employed as such. The school where he studies has only 12 teachers and it has no playground in this small school existing on 80 perches.
Ruwanya Methmini who came second in the whole island by getting 195 marks:-
Ruwanya Methmini Gunasekera is a student of Subharathi Junior School at Essedduma, Kuliyapitiya and her mother is a teacher of Saranath Vidyalaya, Kuliyapitiya. Her father is a Doctor attached to Bingiriya Medical Office. Ruwanya without being glued to her books throughout the day is highly attached to music, Yoga meditation and shows skills in playing the organ too. Methmini who is the youngest with 2 brothers in the family is a playful girl.
According to the first announcement she was made to understand that she was the first in Sri Lanka. From the subsequent news that followed, she actually was the second. Of course this stirred her a little bit; but incidentally it was not a blemish for which she was responsible. Anyhow this is how she commented on it: "What I was having in mind was that I would get more than 180 marks. But I never dreamt that I would get 195 marks. I am satisfied with what I got. My wish is to become a Cardiologist in the future.
Gokuladasan Abhisikan who was the second co-achiever in the whole island with 195 marks:-
Both parents of Gokuladasan Abhisikan who had his education at Ramhakulama Maha Vidyalaya in
Vavuniya are teachers and they say that they are really happy about him. They say that paying lesser interest on the television and working according to a time-table on teachers' advice had paid dividends for their son. Gokuladasan says that he hopes to serve the country as an Engineer in the future.
Senith Dilhan who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
Senith Dilwan Rajapaksa is a student in the Primary Section of Wickramashila National School in Riulla and his father is attached to naval service. He meets his father only once every few months. His mother is attached to the Dambadeniya Basic Hospital as a Nurse. Senith is an outstanding student both in studies as well as in extra-curricular activities and a student who attended to his studies quite appropriately on a daily basis. His twin brother too has sat for the exam this time and secured 176 marks.
Thejana Kaushin who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
Apart from Ruwanya of Subharathi Vidyalaya of Eswedduma, Kuliyapitiya who was placed second, Thejana Kaushi too claimed third position in the whole island. Thejana happens to be the eldest in a family of two. His father is a Railway Guard while the mother is a Nurse at Kuliyapitiya Hospital. Thejana has a small younger sister. When asked what he wishes to be in the future he declined to respond now itself about it.
Umasankar Jayani who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
Umasankar Jayani studying at Hindu Primary Vidyalaya in Jaffna is someone who is engaged in many external activities of the school. She shows an interest towards social services activities too. She had said that she was able to get through this exam in a big way for having dedicated herself to this exam pursuing a normal time-table.
When questioned as to who she wants to be in the future, she had responded saying that she would dedicate herself to serve the public in the country and that she would work towards becoming the President of Sri Lanka in future.
Rehara Binoli who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
Rehara Binoli Miskin who studies at Munidasa Kumaratunga Vidyalaya, Bomiriya, Kaduwela is a resident of Ramahera, Hewagama, Kaduwela. Upto the 4th grade she has been studying at JMC Vidyalaya, Kaduwela.
This is what she has to say about her achievement: "The moment I came to know that I have achieved third position in the island, I was overjoyed. The Principal of my school, class teacher Mrs. Vinitha Hiripitiya, my mother Pavithra Sewwandi, my father Tuan Miskin were at the back of my victory. I have a small younger brother ... Amil Miskin. He's still attending pre-school. I was able to achieve this victory because I used to attend to my school-work daily then and there. I participated in evening classes at school. I didn't attend other external classes. I managed to become a winner because of working with effort and dedication.
Iresh Dulanjana who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
Iresh Dulanjana Chandrasiri of St. Joseph's College, Wennapuwa lives in Haldanduwana, Dankotuwa. He has been a cricketer and has clinched several awards in that respect. Iresha's father has studied at Joseph Vaas College and is occupied at present as a sports coach. Iresh's mother is a housewife. Iresh has not attended any extra classes other than the scholarship exam. He had managed all his work in a balanced manner and had faced the exam.
Nethmi Subodhini who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
M.M. Nethmi Subhodini studying at Ibbagamuwa Aadarsha Maha Vidyalaya is a resident of Pabuluwa, Ibbagamuwa. Both her father and mother are employed at the Provincial Secretariat Office as officers. Nethmi has a sister younger to her. Nethmi has shown her prowess in studies as well as in extra-curricular activities. She also functions as a junior prefect at her school.
Sadesna Rajapaksa who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
Nadini Sadesna Rajapaksa has her education at Dedigama Junior School in Kegalle and lives in Mahapallegama. Her father is a Draughtsman while the mother is a Dentist at Mahapallegama Rural Hospital. She is talented in the game of Chess. She had been in fact awarded the bronze medal at the Chess championship held in the year 2013 in which male and female students of 19 countries participated. She has made her mark at this exam without attending any extra classes. She takes part as an announcer too at school and is also the main prefect at this junior school.
Udayarajan Koshikan who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
Udaya Rajan Koshikan studies at R.K.M. Sri Koneshwara Hindu Vidyalaya (Primary), Trincomalee and his father is employed as a Quality Controller at a private company while his mother works as a Programme Planning officer at the East Provincial Road Development Ministry. Koshikan is someone who has displayed skills in both studies and sports. His elder sister too has has achieved the distinction of being the First from this same district.
Lisadi Imethma who was the third co-achiever in the whole island with 194 marks:-
Lisadi Imethma Handapangoda is schooling at Royal College, Horana. Her father is attached to the Deputy Inspector General's Office, Horana while the mother is an Accounts Officer in Kalutara District. Lisadi's younger brother is in the second class in school. Her habit has been to go through the studies taught in class daily every that same day after going home. "I like to be a doctor", she had said.
