Hambanthota youth's home people after knowing he had hid himself, play a fake role of acting!

The drama of Gayeshan the 20 year old youth from Bandagiriya, Hambantota and who was searched all over the country considered as having disappeared after scooting off from police custody recently was finally found when hiding in a temple and surrendered himself to police. On investigations being now conducted it is presently
revealed that right from the start his home people had been playing a double game and thus had led the entire public astray.

On the night of the day this youth was arrested he had said that he was suffering from a stomachache and had gone to a toilet inside the police station and after observing that the movements and attention of the police officer had strayed, he had made his getaway. Subsequently he had notified his home about it and had taken refuge at a relative's house for some days. During this period of hiding his brothers too had come to visit him. Even after knowing circumstances were such, the day after the incident of Gayeshan's disappearance his home people had gone to the police station in the morning and had made an uproar, thus misleading everybody. After that they had expressed their ideas to the media giving the impression that they were unaware of where Gayeshan was while all the time being aware of where he was. The media under such circumstances had branded the police implying that it was their mistake and information consequently circulated to that extent. The situation thus aggravated with police officers being transferred and suspension of duties simply because so much attention was focused on this issue thus far.

In the meantime a certain monk who in fact was a confederate of this family and who is supposed to have been a contemporary of the brother of Gayashan who had attended university together had taken steps to give them advice. The monk had then managed to get down Gayeshan to the temple and taken steps to hand him over to the police on the presumption that he was unable to figure out what actually would transpire if the situation extended even further.

It is now understood that the statement that the other youth taken into custody with Gayeshan was assaulted was another hoax. The statement made by Gayeshan when he was taken into custody for the second time is as follows: "I was arrested and I was put into the lock up at Hambantota Police, I then told the police sergeant who was on duty that I am suffering from a bad stomachache and that I want to go to the toilet. Then he asked me to go to the toilet inside the police lock up. I kept on refusing to do so. I shouted with great difficulty saying that I wanted to go to some other toilet inside the police station. After that he escorted me to another toilet inside the police. When I went inside and closed the door I sensed that he had gone away from near the toilet. At that moment I thought that I would somehow or other scoot away from police. I came out of the toilet. And then I quite cautiously looked around to check whether he was around. He in fact was engaged with some other work. He had no attention focused on me as such. I thought that this was the best chance for me to make my escape. Then without anybody knowing ... I scooted off from a rear door from inside the police station. I straight away headed to a relative's place in Weeraketiya. That day itself I told my home people that I scooted off from police. I also told them that I am at that relative's place in Weeraketiya. That night itself two of my elder brothers came and visited me. It was then that I decided to stay in hiding right along. By that time everyone in my family was aware that I was hiding. My mother also knew that I was hiding. After about 10 days passed by, Ambakolawewa Buddhika Thera gave a telephone call to my mother and got me down to his temple.

After Gayashan surrendered to Colombo Police Headquarters he was taken into custody. Subsequently he was produced before the Judicial Medical Officer Mr. K.A.P. Gunawardena. By now Gayashan is remanded for the offences of escaping from police custody and for hiding with the motive of concealing information.
