Joint Opposition shares happiness with Ranil at Missing Person Office Bill
The Joint Opposition group displayed their protest yesterday in parliament by wearing black bands against establishing Missing Person Office Bill by yelling out and after the Bill was passed unanimously they were seen engaged in a cordial dialogue with Prime Minister Ranil and with their arms round Minister Malik's shoulders, it was reported. At the time the Bill was presented, the Joint
Opposition group which entered the parliament adorned with black bands had also had gone to the extent of creating a protest.
Though antipathy was displayed against the Bill by accessing the parliament chambers, there were no speakers on their side and when the Speaker stated that the opportunity to speak had dawned on Mr. Disesh Gunawardena; however he had not come forward to express anything. As such, the Speaker brought the debate to a close and expressed that the opportunity was made available to take up the debate for the third reading for the second time and under those circumstances the government and thus went through the process of passing the Bill without argument.
By this time, social sites and web sites of the JVP have reported this activity as a Mahinda - Ranil deal. The photographs shown here depict how MPs inclusive of Udaya Gammanpila, Dinesh Gunawardena, Sanath Nishantha and Vasudeva Nanayakkara who were involved in protests after the amendment of this Bill were observed engaging in cordial, casual discussions in the company of the United National Party leader and Prime Minister Ranil Wockremasingha, Malik Samarawickrema and Harshana Rajakaruna and Mr. Gammanpila was seen putting his arms around Mr. Malik Samarawickrema in the process.
