Deaths of three in same family a case of drinking poison or being poisoned?
Dead bodies of a businessman, his daughter and son were discovered last afternoon on the top floor of a rented house down St. Benedict's Street, Kotahena with poison getting into their system. It still remains a mystery whether this businessman who is supposed to have been living burdened with debts committed suicide in this manner by poisoning his
children too or had embraced death because of the breakfast and beverages brought home that morning had turned poison.
This businessman who had been maintaining a sales outlet of mobile phones brought down to the country from Singapore had even owned a house down St. Benedict's Street. However sometime back he had been duped by a fraudulent character and had fallen into a deep financial mess and as a result he had leased out the house and gone into occupation in a nearby house on rent. His business associate had obtained a sum of Rs. 40 lakhs saying that he would go to Singapore and come back and had subsequently vanished as a result of which he had fallen into financial difficulties and fallen down mentally as well.
The deceased businessman's wife too had been in the house last morning; but she had left home to attend a meeting in Kotahena Tamil Maha Vidyalaya and it is of special interest to note that it was during that time this tragic incident was reported. Since the youngest son of that family aged 9 years was to appear for tomorrow (21) for the grade 5 scholarship, a meeting for the parents had been summoned by that school. For this reason she had set off from home around 7 in the morning yesterday and at the time she was leaving home she had woken the husband to tell him that she was leaving and he together with the two children had been in sleep at that time. In that instance the husband had said that they would have breakfast by bringing food from outside.
Subsequently, when the parent association was in progress according to what she had said was that she had received a call from home and that it was her son who spoke but that she did not hear clearly what he spoke. Therefore she says that she had discontinued the conversation and had hastened home. By the time she returned home at approximately 11 and had made her way to her home along the stairway that lead upstairs she had found that her daughter in a collapsed in a fainted state and that when she had lifted the girl and had gone home what she found was that her husband and her son too were found in a fainted condition. She had then raised a cry asking for support from the neighbours and had managed to take all three of them to hospital .
The husband and the daughter had already passed away by the time they were brought to the hospital while the son had died in the hospital. However the son who was in a state where he was in a condition where he was beyond speaking had remained in that state right along until his death, it was understood. On the other hand the police who inspected the house they were able to find two packets of milk that had been consumed and a half-consumed parcel of food and two jugs of water already drunk. Investigations as to whether the poison had entered their bodies through the packets of milk or or the parcel of food have still not been ascertained. It has been observed that the deceased have consumed water heavily after the poison.
The deceased are a 46 year old businessman named Jesudasan, his daughter 11 year old Kadarshani and 9 year old son Kavindran. It is still not clear as to whether they died because of some poison in the food or whether the businessman on purpose had done so and killed the children while committing suicide in the same manner. What his wife says is that although her husband had problems he was not prepared to do something like this. It has been revealed to police at interrogation carried out on neighbours that the family had lived peacefully in the house. Kotahena Police are conducting further investigations on the incident.
