New Governor of Central Bank Indrajit
There had been speculations and rumours that Eran, Nandalal and Charitha were tipped to be the new Governor of the Central Bank of Central Bank of Sri Lanka.
However a name that was never spoken of that of the economic specialist Professor Indrajit Cumaraswamy had been decided upon by the President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe to be appointed as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka with affect
from 04th July 2016. This has been confirmed via a government notice.
Indrajit Coomaraswamy is 66 years old and is an old boy of Royal College. He had obtained his first degree from the Cambridge University and then his Professors degree from the Sussex University. He had served at the Central Bank of Sri Lanka for a period of 16 years in the departments of research and statistics. He had later served as a Director of the Commonwealth countries secretary general’s office for a period of 18 years.
He had then served as an economic consultant of a number of reputed companies in Sri Lanka.
The appointment of Indrajit Coomaraswamy has been confirmed to the media by the President’s media unit.
