Vicinity to the Aukana Buddha statue two strange concrete flower stands

In front  and in close proximity to the historical Aukana Buddha statue two large strange concrete flower stands have been erected which is reported to have tarnished the tremendous archaeological
value of the historical Aukana Buddha statue.

The construction of the flower stands made mainly of concrete had begun over a month ago. Currently the construction activities are nearing completion.

The archaeological experts have revealed that owing to the construction of concrete flower stands the historical and the archaeological values are decreasing to unprecedented levels.

The Aukana Buddha statue has a history of nearly 1500 years .The construction of the concrete flower stands has very clearly taken away the historical value, the archaeological experts have revealed. It is reported that such an addition could not be approved at any cost.

The archaeological experts had added that if it became a necessity to have flower stands close to the Aukana Buddha  statue temporary stands instead of permanent concrete stands should have been kept for offering of flowers.

When inquiries were made from the Viharadipathi of the Aukana  temple Sasthradipathi  Dhammakiththi thera it had been said that for the coming Poson Poya thousand are devotees are expected and for the convenience of them the new concrete flower stands are erected. The Viharadipathi had said that for the construction of the concrete flower stand the consent of the related archaeological authorities were obtained and the construction with more extensions are to be made.

The Buddhist community have appealed to the authorities of the archaeological department o stop these constructions to allow the historical value to remain even at this  stage without tarnishing the archaeological value of the historical Aukana Buddha statue.
