Sarong incident at WP Council

Sarong incident at WP Council

UNP Kalutara District MP Mr. Ifthikar Jemil who wanted to air his views and make his protest yesterday at the council gathering in connection with the quota allocated to MPs in relation to admitting students to Grade 1 in schools coming
under the Western Province went as far as getting on top of the table and removing his sarong. As he was wearing a trouser under the sarong, the private parts of his body however were covered from the viewers.

Though Provincial Council MPs were allocated an opportunity of filling 5 vacancies in the case of admitting students, what this MP said was that all those chances were grabbed by the UPFA MP Prasanna Sanjeewa and thus injustice was done to him. After his protest with his sarong coming down what Prasanna Sanjeewa said was that he would invite his opponent to come out to talk about this matter and that he is prepared to give him a proper response to it. The Vice Chairman Mr. Yasapala Koralage who was in the Chair has had to calm down the assembly with great effort on which occasion MP Ifthikar Jemil proceeded once more to dress up in his sarong which then was at his feet and subsequently come back to his seat.
