Ravi triumphs in no confidence motion-Mahinda,Namal and Wimal abstains from signing

The no confidence motion brought on the Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake by the joint opposition members has been defeated by a large majority in parliament. The votes fetched for the no confidence motion was 51. .Those

who voted against was by 145 members. There were 28 absentees on this day.

Accordingly the no confidence motion against he minister Ravi Karunanayake was defeated by 94 votes. The former president and Member of Parliament for Kurunegala district Mahinda Rajapaksa was absent in Parliament when the voting took place.

It was also reported that the Members of Parliament in joint opposition Roshan Ranasinghe, Chandrasiri Gajasinghe and Jayantha Samaraweera were also absent in Parliament.

It is also reported that the Members of Parliament of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna had also voted for the no confidence motion against the Finance Minister. The leader of the JVP Anura Kumara Dissanayake,Bimal Ratnayake, Vijitha Herath and Sunil Handunneththi had voted  for the no confidence motion.

After the voting the Parliament session was adjourned  at  10.30 am until the 10th instant.

After the no confidence motion was won by Ravi Karunanayake ,he had held a media briefing in Colombo. At the media briefing he had added that for the no confidence motion former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Members of Parliament Namal Rajapaksa and  Wimal Weerawansa had not signed.
