Transiit of Mercury today in 2016 after 10 years

Today the 9th May  2016 Sri Lankans could view the planet Mercury making a rare transition of the Sun.Planet Mercury passes directly between the Sun and Earth only 13 times a century.

The last time this had happened was 10 years ago  in the year 2006.The next time would be on

November 11th 2019.

This transfer would be visible in Sri Lanka  from Earth between the times 4.22pm to 6.16pm. s the sun sets in the evening by 6pm or so the transfer may not be viewed fully by Sri Lankans.However in countries like USA,those around the Atlantic, Europe this transfer could be viewed from 7.13 am on the 9th instant well.

This information has been revealed by the Arthur C Clark institute in Sri Lanka.
