First Sri Lankan to attempt climbing Mount Everest
Miss Jayanthi Kuru-Uthumpahala who was successful in climbing Mount Everest, considered to be the highest mountain in the world managed to write her name against the record books last 21st morning as the first Sri Lankan to do so. However it was a moment of misfortune to record that two members of her team who had been coming down after the climb
had died. It was a national of the Netherlands, a male together with a female Australian national who reached the summit of Mount Everest and came to the mountain climbers' camp subsequently passed away this way because of the extreme cold prevalent at the top of the mountain. Jayanthi who descended the mountain carrying the bad news with her was able to provide her own details about climbing the mountain.
Jayanthi who joined in this expedition in the company of another Sri Lankan named Yohan Pieris managed to reach a higher distance of the mountain; but he was not able to go beyond the higher plane considered as the Stage of the Everest Peak. Yohan incidentally is a hair style designer while Jayanthi has served as a media reporter sometime ago. These days she is engaged as an Advisor of a Women's Rights organisation. Jayanthi who has been climbing mountains in Tanzania and Nepal is supposed to be someone equipped with experience.
Mount Everest is situated 29029 feet above sea level. Jayanthi has gained experience in participating in training camps in connection with climbing Mount Everest prior to this expedition and it was after that she had made this attempt. How Jayanthi made her climb with her two companions who met with death is seen below
