For been suspected as an accused in money laundering under the money laundering act the former minister of economic development Basil Rajapakasa was remanded on the instructions of
the  Magistrates courts Matara.

The bail application was made by the lawyers of the former minister was allowed by the Matara Chief Magistrate Ms Uresha de Silva.The minister was released on the production of Rs 50000/ case and three body sureties with Rs 10 lakhs each.

The case is to be heard on the 20th July.The former minister was ordered to be present at the criminal investigations department on every Sunday morning between the hours of 9 am and 12 noon.His passport was also kept in the custody of the courts was also ordered by the Chief Magistrate of Matara Magistrates courts.
