A Chinese national at Shangrila hotel building site arrested for breeding one billion mosquito breeders
On an inspection made by the public health inspectors of the Colombo Municipal Council it had revealed that in the building site where a Chinese hotel Shangrila is under constructed
close to the Galle Face there had been over 0ne million breeding mosquitoes ( Keetayas) in the site premises. The CMC public health inspectors had gone to the building site with police protection and arrested a Chinese national who was in charge of the site.This was because of the dengue threat.
At this site it had been reported that many workers had been inflicted with dengue fewer and one had even acquired Malaria fever which had been eradicated from the country fully.
These mosquito breeders ( Keetayas) over one billion is recorded as the highest number of such mosquito breeders that were found from the entire Colombo area.This had been a real threat to office workers in offices in the nearby areas and to those hotel workers and visitors to hotels in the vicinity.
It is reported that there had been several complaints in this regard to the Colombo Municipal council but to raid the site the authorities of the Fort police had not given assistance.The raid had been conducted under the instructions of the DIG Gamini Mathurata with the assistance of the Slave Island police.
