Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had made a visit to Thailand some days back in the company of former Minister G.L. Pieris for the purpose of participating at a religious festival at Udam Thani Vihara in that country. The relic concerned on this occasion has been gifted to Thailand from Sri Lanka during the tenure of Mahinda Rajapaksa as President. Apart from this ceremony the President has also attended the opening ceremony of a large marble Buddha statue situated on top of a mountain close to the Laos frontier.
