Royal students arrested for unlawful entry to girls' school -- Update

Some students of Royal College were taken into custody by Kollupitiya Police for unlawful entry to Colombo Bishop's and Ladies' Colleges, sometime back. The Police yesterday (17) informed Fort Magistrate, Mr. Priyantha Liyanage by forwarding further reports that Principals of the above-
mentioned two girls' schools had got the said students voluntarily inside their schools and the Principals concerned have given a statement to that effect to Kollupitiya Police.

The case regarding this incident was called yesterday in the presence of Fort Magistrate on which occasion the report was forwarded by Kollupitiya Police. Fourteen students of Royal College were arrested by Kollupitiya Police for unlawful entry to Bishop's College and Ladies' College on the 8th of this month. Later they were produced before Fort Magistrate and subsequently released on bail yesterday, but were ordered to be present in courts yesterday (17).

On the occasion when these students appeared in courts yesterday, the police forwarded a further report saying that the Principals of Bishop's College and Ladies's College had given a statement to the police stating that they had wilfully given permission for the students to gain access to their schools and therefore to refrain from taking legal action and on their request to withhold any legal action being taken. The Magistrate who considered the report forwarded by the police issued instructions that the fourteen students of Royal College be released, thus bringing the case to a close.
