Suspected gas-leak

According to police investigations carried out in relation to dead bodies of members of the same family recovered from a three-storied house
down Kawdana Road, Dehiwala, further  information is being unravelled by now.

A Muslim national by the name of Hussein Moulana had been living in this house with his family on the ground floor in this building. A Bangladesh family had lived on the second floor while a group of workers had been living on rent on the top floor, it is reported. Hussein who is a businessman had lived with his wife, daughter and a relative girl of theirs in that house. Even until one day elapsed after this tragedy had occured, residents of top floors had been unaware of it.

This morning a neighbour-friend of Hussein had come to visit him and as there was no sign of anybody in the house, on suspicion he had checked across the windows in the house and had noticed that the occupants were dead. Later the police who arrived on the scene had broken opened the door and investigated the matter.

The body of dead Hussein Moulana was found lying on a chair, the dead body of his wife Marzana inside a room and the dead bodies of the young girls Uzana and Vizana were were found in the hall, the police reported. Suspicion has been aroused that the cause of the deaths was a case of an electricity-leak or a gas-leak. It has also been noticed that the bodies were charred and it is suspected that this fire or gas-leak had broken out in the kitchen area of the house. The electric oven in the kitchen, a section of the pantry cupboards and cups and plates had been burned and it is assumed that on having rushed to extinguish the flames the residents in the house may have been unable to escape at the moment of the incident. It is said that according to the positioning of that house it is seen that the householders were deprived of air and if a gas-leak had occured, inhabitants of the lower floor would have become victims of this tragedy.

Attention of the police was focused on fingerprints noted on walls of the house and that those fingerprints may have been their own which had left those markings at the time when they were trying to flee from this situation, it is further suspected. When the police inspected the electric switchboard the switch was found in a downward position , it was reported. Further investigations about the incident is being conducted by Dehiwala Police.
