Millionaire who went from pool of Colombo hotel ....

to welcome President and Premier!

The strange incident where a special donor who had gone to welcome President Maithripala and Prime Minister Ranil from the luxury hotel in Colombo clad only in a swim suit

has by now caused a dialogue in political circles.

The person concerned in this case happens to be George Soros, the celebrated investor. George Soros who was born in Hungary had gone to America and commenced a massive business known as Soros Management and is well-known for investments. He had given consent to make various investments for the progress of Sri Lanka in future and it was with his retinue of businessmen that he had arrived in Sri Lanka some days back. He had bought an entire floor at a five star hotel close to Galle Face in Colombo but not close to the sea as such, on behalf of his group of businessmen. A special room on the seventh floor of the said hotel was allotted to him and it was understood that the price for the room was 6000 dollars per day.

It was reported that a wedding function scheduled to be held at an adjoining floor was changed to another location on the assumption that it would disturb the activities of this millionaire during his stay there. The reason for that was the consideration given to this millionaire by the hotel management. During the period that he was to step into the pool, it had been prohibited for others to make use of the pool, it was reported.

During the time he was staying at the hotel the Premier and the President had fixed a confrontation with him at the hotel one day and it happened to be that they had arrived somewhat earlier. The hotel then conveyed the message that the Sri Lankan President and the Prime Minister had made the scheduled visit and at that time Soros was in the pool at his usual time. Not wanting to waste time Soros had got out of the pool still clad in his underwear and after wiping his body with a towel had after wrapping himself with the towel had proceeded towards the room closeby to meet the President and the Premier. Though even those at the hotel too had displayed a surprise of this meeting which of course was quite strange in confronting distinguished visitors, they had however begun their discussions with Soros. At that moment there had been none to capture this scene on camera. The photo published below has been taken at the economic conference after Soros had met the Premier and President in that previous instance.
