and got his face pierced by an iron rod

An unfortunate incident was reported yesterday from Ulapane area in Gampola of a person who had fallen from a flight of steps and has had his
face pierced by an iron rod. By now this person is recovering and because of bringing the patient and because of the efficiency of the physicians, the damage sustained by the person has been minimised.

The victim in this case is a 47 year old father of 3 children named D. Annamale of Kebeligalawatte, Ulapane. The victim had been on his way to work at a shop from home yesterday (19) when he had fallen down from a flight of steps about 20 feet high on to a barbed wire below and was entangled there when the villagers managed to cut that wire off and admit him to hospital.

As the iron rod too was lodged about his face about 4 feet with the wire around him, he had to be dispatched to hospital in a lorry. Physicians and workers of Gampola Hospital who promptly moved into action were able to attend to the surgery with the least possible damage to the victim. Five doctors inclusive of the director of the hospital Dr. Mrs. J.M. Jayasundera, Specialist Dr. Kanishka Kamal, Specialist Dr. Chintha Kariyawasam, Specialist Dr. Milhan Bahar and other doctors and the staff as well had been involved in thie process of removing those wires.
