- Police complaint against doctor

A complaint has been lodged against a surgeon by the husband of a lady who was operated on at Nagoda Hospital, Kalutara. What he had said was that when he went with his wife to take treatment
for a nodule on the right breast of his wife, the said doctor had examined her and after giving a date had performed a surgery on her left breast and subsequently it was realised that he had gone wrong.

After the wife regained her consciousness and when she told the the surgeon that the nodule was on the left side but the right, he had brought on a smile on his face and responded saying, "oh my gosh ... I have too much work", and then proceeded to make her unconscious and had conducted an operation on her left breast as if nothing had happened.

Her husband Senaratna (47) living in Agalawatta, Matugama had reported that this incident took place at Ward No. 1 of Nagoda Hospital, Kalutara. When he had gone to complain about this to the doctor concerned the latter had avoided it saying that he had so much of work. When inquiring about this from Dr. Pradeep Wijesingha, Director of Nagoda Hospital, Kalutara what he says is that a statement was obtained from the surgeon concerned and that he had said that since there were nodules on both breasts a surgery was performed and that the doctor had told that the related components had been sent for further examination. Kalutara Police are conducting further enquiries on the complaint made.
