Strange incident at Colombo High Court

Youth who came to dock after a shot of heroin ....

"My Lord ... when coming I had a shot from Priyanthi akka's 'pot"

The young man who was accused of a case for having less than a gram of heroin in his possession and for being involved in drug-dealing had presented himself in Colombo High Courts some days back and had appeared in courts too after drugs

and had rendered courts into a clueless situation. The Judge who observed the accused who stepped into the dock behaving in an abnormal fashion had asked him to step down from the dock and to come before his seat and the manner in which the youth had come forward with great effort, swaying this way and that way, had been noticed. The dialogue that ensued between him and the Judge is as follows:

Judge: Why are you waggling so much?

Defendant: Yes .... I took a shot of heroin.

Judge: From where did you take it?

Defendant: While coming to courts I had a 500 rupee packet from Priyanthi akka's 'pot'                  from the centre road in Magazine Road.

Judge: From where is the money?

Defendant: From my mother's pension. I came to courts with my elder sister.

This 34 year old drug-addict who came to courts after smoking heroin from his mother's     pension was in the end ordered by the Colombo Chief High Court Judge Mr. P. Padmak Surasena to be directed to a rehabilitation camp for a period of two years. The Judge also advised him to go to the camp and to spend time as a righteous man and to come back to society as a righteous man.
