Appeal on behalf of Kusal to reduce punishment for using banned substance

The Minister of Sports Dayasiri Jayasekera had quipped that an appeal would be submitted to the International cricket council to reduce the punishment imposed on cricketer Kusal Janith Perera after it was proved that he had used the banned substance for which he was alleged.

It had been  initially found that the explosive super opening batsman Kusal Janith Perera had used the banned substance when  his urine sample was subjected to a random test in August during the Pakistan series against Sri Lanka. This teat was found to be positive and in order to confirm a subsequent B sample test was also carried out for using  the alleged banned substance which too proved positive.

The second teat was carried out when Kusal Janith Perera had defended himself that he had used medicine to cure a wound in his foot caused by a "leech bite".

The punishment to be imposed was a period of not less four years.The Minister of Sports had quipped that an appeal would be forwarded to the International cricket council to reduce the period of his ban.
