Thilak Marapana resigns from his Minister portfolio
Minister of Law and Order Mr. Thilak Marapana has resigned today from his position. He had confirmed this at a special meeting held at 10.30 this morning at his private residence at Pelawatta Road, Nugegoda and he
also mentioned that his letter of resignation was directed to the Prime Minister.
The closest reason for this resignation of his is the protest voiced by Cabinet Ministers and leaders of civil organisations in relation to the statement made by Mr. Marapana in parliament concerning the Avant Garde Floating Armoury. Mr. Marapana has mentioned in parliament that the Avant Guard Armoury containing weapons was checked by the police to 'collect marks'. Allegations were aimed at him saying that as an attorney-at-law Mr. Thilak Marapana had spoken on behalf of the Avant Garde Company who is his client and based on some advantage.
At a time when a special Cabinet meeting has been called today (09) to discuss matters regarding the Avant Garde incident the Minister had left his Ministerial portfolio before that in the process.
