Father put inside kennel .... dies

A father who was made to stay in a kennel in a house in Kengalla area, Balagolla, Kandy  thus

leading to a dialogue in the country has passed away in the hospital while staying at an elders' home.

The tragic situation which this father faced was exposed to the country when a team of officers happened to visit the house concerned to inspect dengue-prone areas. The daughter of this father had made her father stay in a kennel while the dogs in the kennel were provided space inside a room in the house and because of this action a dialogue emerged among society about neglecting parents. After the said incident was brought to the notice of the police, he was taken into custody and on orders of the courts he was made to stay at an elders' home in Ampitiya and on a sickly condition which occured last week he was admitted to Kandy General Hospital where he passed away. It was learned that he was 73 years old at the time of his death.

His 42 year old daughter who was arrested for having kept the father in a kennel and after having been produced before courts was remanded and sometime back she was released on bail. Though the dead body of the father was lying at the mortuary of the Kandy General Hospital the daughter was not permitted by courts to take possession of the body, it was reported in the evening. This daughter is said to be the only daughter of that father and it is understood that her husband was overseas. The deceased's wife also is supposed to be abroad. On court orders his funeral arrangements are expected to be undertaken on government expenses.
