Kondaya demands compensation of ....
5 crores from police!
Dunesh Priyashantha alias Kondaya who was released after a big sensation being once taken into custody on suspicion concerning the Seya Sandewmi murder has now filed a case against
the police claiming a sum of 5 crores. He has forwarded a petition to the Supreme Courts to the effect that he was kept for a number of days under custody even when he had no connection with the killing of the child and that in the process he was subjected to brutal punishment by police officers, thus violating his fundamental rights.
The Inspector General of Police, Mr. B.R.N.R. Nagahamulla Director of the CID, Mr. Lasantha Ratnayaka the Chief Police Inspector of the CID, the Police Media Spokesman and the Attorney General have been named as the respondents in the petition.
32 year old Dinesh, a bachelor, was taken into custody at a moment when he was hiding in a forest fearing the police. Since there were earlier allegations against him and because of that reason he had tried to flee when seeing the police. Whatever it is, among Kondaya's previous offences there were complaints of juvenile offences too. Attorney-at-Law, Mr. Upul Premaratna who filed the petition on behalf of Kondaya had stated that the Media Spokesman had identified Kondaya as a criminal and had given statements from time to time and thus he had pushed Kondaya into a situation where he is unable to face the society.
It was Saman the elder brother of Kondaya who sexually abused and murdered Seya Sandewmi. He in fact admitted about it in courts recently. The 17 year old schoolboy who was apprehended on suspicion over the Seya murder had filed legal action asking for compensation against the police.
