Neighbouring-house 5 year old child dies ....
having fallen into doctor's swimming pool!
An unfortunate incident is reported day-before-yesterday of a 5 year old boy of a neighbouring house
of a doctor who had fallen into the swimming pool belonging to the doctor living down Dampe Road, Suwarapola, Piliyandala and had drowned.
The deceased is a child by the name of Shavindu Ayomal who was expecting to gain admission to school. This tragic incident had taken place day-before-yesterday around 4.30 in the evening at a time the father and mother of the boy had gone to work after assigning the duty of looking after the deceased child and his elder brother to the grandfather. The incident concerned had occured when the grandfather had gone to Hanwella on a certain mission by handing over the two children to a relative to look after them during his absence.
It is recorded on the CCTV camera fixed in the doctor's house that the deceased child was last seen playing in front of the doctor's house with the elder brother and another child. Later the child concerned had run towards the swimming pool of the doctor, all of which has been recorded in the CCTV camera. The other two children had looked for the boy who had run towards the doctor's house and since he had not returned the two of them had called to him; but to no avail. Later the elders were informed about this. Subsequently the neighbours too had started searching for this missing child when in the process the doctor had arrived home with another person. The doctor too had joined in the search operation. It was during the search that the other person who had come with the doctor had seen the child fallen into the pool. The child was found to be in a serious condition and though he was taken to Piliyandala Hospital in a vehicle it was found that the child was dead already by that time, the police say. The post-mortem was to be held yesterday at the Kalubowila General Hospital.
