The news that spread around a number of newspapers and rupavahini channels and web sites recently

about a video where a female and two males were involved in a conflict has come to an end with that female concerned making a statement, thus leaving a question as to how the media should act.

The said video contains a scene where this female was dealt a blow in which she collapsed after a moment her lover and a friend after liquor had got involved in an exchange of words and they had been on a picnic on that occasion which incidentally was one year before in 2014. That particular scene which depicted the two of them scolding using low-grade words and fighting in a stupid manner engaged in fisticuffs is something that brought unpleasant feelings to a person. Though those who witnessed such a scene does not get a feeling about women harassment, it only creates a disappointed feeling that there are such 'stupid' fellows among the youth of the present generation, among us.

Whatever it is, while Warakapola Akka, the Ratnapura prostitute and others about whom various topics were highlighted across social websites from time to time, this incident gave rise to spreading across to rupavahini channels and newspapers, thus quoting it from other websites to further websites. It has now come to a situation where the media had highlighted to the extent of obtaining a statement from the Police Media Spokesman in respect of this statement which took place an year ago.

However, the former female in the relevant video had now said that it is just a minor matter that does not concern even her and that there is no female harassment in it. This female who is a garment-worker in Katunayaka Free Trade Zone says that a person where the phone was given for repairs had managed to get these scenes on the sly and had later released it to the internet. After this was broadcast the female portrayed in that scene and the youth with whom she is to marry had gone to Katunayaka Police Station and had said that they were lovers and were to get married and also that because a private video of theirs being released to the internet the media has given an unnecessary publicity to it.

As the moment of assault in that is no problem in their case, they had questioned as to how it could become a problem for others. They had even requested the police to search for those who took steps to release it to the internet and to mete out punishment to them. Subsequent to that, this female who gave a statement to the media went on to say that she blames the media for having broadcast such a thing without looking into it and for giving it a wrong interpretation. In the process, the person who is said to be her lover it is reported as having faced a return attack because of the assault and that one of his eyes is swollen. However, he had refused making any statement to the media as such.
