Mahinda proposed to be given a portfolio similar to a Cabinet Minister

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe as promised during the general election campaign of forming District  Coordinating Committees is contemplating in  forming these committees as promised.

In the 22 districts in proportional manner how they were won UNP is to get  14 while the UFA is to
get 11 such District coordinating committees under the Chairmanship of the respective parties.

In this contest former President Mahinda Rajapaksa who contested from the Kurunegala district is tipped to become the chairman of the District development committee in the Kurunagala district.

It is learnt that he would receive powers similar to a cabinet Minister and other perks.
