Driving licences of drivers of Minuwangoda accident ... cancelled

      55000 bail

Five lives were lost because of the road accident which took place in Minuwangoda last afternoon.

After the CCTV video was broadcast over the video last evening, various interpretations and opinions were published as to whom was to be blamed. One such opinion said that since the jeep could be seen at a distance by the bus which came from the opposite direction, it could have slowed down or swerved to a side and could have avoided the accident. Another opinion expressed was that the jeep was at fault for having tried to overtake a vehicle at a bend when a single line was to be seen on the road. In the meantime what some others say is that since there was hachure, it was not wrong on the part of the jeep. In the meantime some others had appreciated the attempt taken by the bus which was travelling in the same direction as that of the jeep to avoid the accident by lessening the speed and swerving to a side.

Whatever it is, according to the judgment pronounced by Minuwangoda Courts, both bus drivers who were responsible for the accident have been fined and have been released on bail. After the drivers of the two private buses were produced in courts their driving licences have been revoked. Further they have been released on bail with a cash bond of Rs. 5,000 and a personal bond of Rs. 50,000 each.

The Minuwangoda Magistrate has fixed the hearing of the case for next 30th. The video of the accident, from below
