Will never request to obtain nominations for elections again - Kamal Adaraarachchi

Question: What really happened to you when you were anticipating obtaining nominations?

A.Not only was from Gampaha district? I categorically stated that it could be even from

Ratnapura, Kalutara or Anuradhapura districts. My name was proposed .Then I also stated that I wished to contest from any district in Sri Lanka which I gave in writing.

Question: When the Nominations were to be finalised everyone thought you would get nominations from Gampaha?

A: Yes. Gampaha is very close to Colombo. Hence I preferred to be elected to Gampaha as it was a place where I could travel to and from rather easily.Hence my priority was to contest from Gampaha.

Question: Why were you deprived of this opportunity?

A: At that time the matter was been discussed. Ranjan Ramanayake was selected to Gampaha as it his home base area.Then the question arose that two actors are not required for Gampaha.It was at that time that an alternate party the United National was formed. In that instance my place had to be sacrificed to the son of Rajitha Senaratne,Chathura Senaratne.

Question: If you received nominations what were your chances of winning? 

A: Definitely and would have made others surprised.

Question: That is if you had contested would you have come on top of the list?

A: I will not say that. But if I contested I would have been a sure winner.

Question: You have no political experience so how could you say you are sure to win?

A: It is true that I am a novice to politics. But as an actor I have always been in the hearts of people. If any normal person had to face this he would have had to face many disgrace from the people. But when I failed to get my nominations there were many who felt sorry and were sad about it.

Question: Although nominations were not given to you if the UNP comes to power will you accept any positions?

A: I wanted to enter politics not to get positions for me.But if a change happens and in a good institution if a position is awarded will accept to some service. But even in the Film Corporation if the post of Chairman is offered it is like a captain in a sinking ship.

Question: Since you were not given nominations, do you have any regrets?

A: No. I have no regrets as I now have an opportunity to work with all in coordination.

Question: Whatever you say will you attempt to contest in the next election.

A: No. I have no idea. For an election I will never contest.
