Four cornered tussle for the post made vacant by the Chief Minister Western Provincial council
The Chief Minister of the Western Provincial Prasanna Ranatunga who contested from the
UPFA from Gampaha district in the recent general election having polled the highest number of preferential votes for the UPFA will no doubt will sit in the parliament once the new sessions commence. His vacancy has to be filled until the Western Provincial council is dissolved.'
For the post made vacant by the Chief Minister there are four competent and senior members who ate vying for it in a four cornered tussle.They are Hector Bethmage, Sunil Wijeratne,Gamini Thilakasiri and Ranjith Somawansa.
It is learnt that they have had positions of Chairman and also held ministerial positions are all competent to be appointed for the position made vacant. In this connection it is learnt that some have even approached former president and advisor to the SLFP Chandrika Kumaratunga about the interest they had shown to claim this post.
