HOW BROTHEL GOT CORDONED NEAR ....

A wine store and a night club which was being conducted for a length of time amidst serious

protests of the people in the area close to Vidyalankara Pirivena in Pannipitiya the latter of which boasts of a long-term Buddhist educational history was thus brought into disrepute and the earlier referred to place was cordoned by police in the early hours of last morning.

This night club which was situated adjoining Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya had been offering prostitutes on an illegal basis and the police had entered the said premises at dawn on a tip off received, armed with a search warrant secured from courts and were able to notice several prostitutes and businessmen of the affluent class enjoying themselves in the company of the former. Kottawa Police said that 10 females suspected to have engaged in prostitution, the manager who supported the activities concerned and 3 others were taken into custody in this operations. The arrested customers of these women were released after being warned.

The night club had been operated without a licence, it was later revealed. Kottawa Police had conducted this raid on a warrant obtained by Homagama Magistrate Courts. A photograph of the arrested suspected females being taken in a jeep to the police station is shown below. They are expected to be produced in courts.
