had been maintaining an account at the People's Bank related to a non-governmental organisation known by the name of Siriliya Sawiya.
Former Co-ordinating Secretary of former President, Rohan Weliwita has tried to explain matters through a press release as to how the national identity card number of Shiranthi's account in this bank contained a queer number with only two numerals. As mentioned there it is as follows: Opponents of Rajapaksa Government had right from the start said that the First Lady Rajapaksa and the other three individuals who were authorized to sign cheques on behalf of Siriliya Sawiya had supplied bogus national identity card numbers to the Suduwella Branch of the People's Bank.
On the occasion when officers of the said establishment had opened the bank account, a copy of the passport of the First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa was provided while copies of the national identity cards of ladies H.A.N. Jeevani Kumari and S.K.K. Dissanayaka had been provided to the bank.
Though the names and addresses of these three persons were correctly stated, it is seen that some irregularity had taken place when inserting the national identity card numbers into the computer system.
