Villages rescue a small schoolgirl from kidnapper
A student in year two in the Anagarika Dharmapala Primary school in Puttalam who
was to be kidnapped by a person had been fortunately avoided owing to the prompt action of the villages and the intervention of the police. The suspect had been arrested from a jungle in the vicinity.
The small girl after school is usually picked by a three wheeler and taken home. On the 1st instant she had been staying in the vicinity of the school when the suspected person had very shrewdly had spoken to the girl and attempted to walk along with her. One neighbour had seen the girl with the suspect had arisen suspicious and had informed the other neighbours who had followed them.The suspect had been walking toward a jungle. Near the Thiladiya Welakkani Catholic Church the suspect had been walking with the girl towards a jungle close to a cemetery.
When the neighbours of the girl were following the suspect had intercepted and tried to enter a jungle near the lagoon. The traffic police of the Puttalam police station had arrived at the scene. After about two hours the small girl in the jungle had screamed loud. The neighbours had then entered into the jungle and rescued the girl.
The suspect a 38 year old a resident of Puttalam, Kalpitiya road, Palaviya area had been arrested. After he was assaulted by the neighbours had sustained injuries and is been treated in the Puttalam hospital under police guard. It has revealed that the suspect in the year 2008 had been charged and convicted for the offence of raping a girl and in the year 2009 had also been convicted for breaking and looting a house.
The suspect has been ordered to be remanded until the 10th of this month.
