a case of suicide by jumping into pool

More information has been revealed by now about the dead body of the Old Boy of Thurstan College

whose body was found inside the swimming pool of Thurstan College yesterday.

It is understood that he was undergoing mental pressure and according to evidence received by now the police suspect that he had committed suicide by jumping into the swimming pool of the college. This 50 year old person, Jagath Prasad Fernando who had been living down Raja Maha Vihara Road in Nawinna, Maharagama had received his education at Thurstan College and left school in the year 1984. After serving with Sri Lankan Airways for sometime had later gone to America after that, on a job-stint. Later on he had lived in England after a short period. During this time he had entered into matrimony. He has one child from that marriage and because of a domestic problem that cropped up, his wife had divorced him. Subsequently, the wife had gone to another location to reside with the 7 year old child born to them.

He had spent his life alone with his mother in Nawinna. During the above-said period he had spent his life in great mental suffering, it is reported. On the evening of the incident he had told the householders that he would be going to his school; but had not returned home again.

His corpse was recovered early last morning inside the college swimming pool. On seeing the floating dead body in the swimming pool the security officers had notified the police about it and on investigation it was found that he had passed away the day before night several hours ago. Since it was a holiday for Thurstan College yesterday, as a result there had been no school students and  therefore information in this respect was somewhat delayed.

The post-mortem on the dead body was expected to be conducted last evening. The Kurunduwatta Police is to conduct further inquiries on this matter.
