Third Mile Post mystery exposed ....
from digital camera in rivulet!
The police who conducted investigations on the dead body found some days back near a rivulet at
Third Mile Post area in Hakdanawa, Mahiyangana had no clue as to whose corpse it was. However, after extensive investigations were conducted, on evidence uncovered across a digital camera it has been possible to trace the identity of the dead person as well as that of the person who committed the murder.
An umbrella, a t-shirt, footwear, and pairs of shorts have been found near the nude body found close to the stretch of lands on last 4th. Even the villagers were at a quandary over the identity of the dead person. When sufficient evidence was not forthcoming, the police who began a search in the surrounding area had found a digital camera left at a rivulet in the jungle about 500 metres from where the corpse was located. On inspecting it, the data saved in the memory chip within it was undamaged and intact and when examining it further, a photograph of a three-wheeler taken in a manner that the number of this vehicle was visible was observed.
The police who pursued their investigations along this evidence and questioned the owner of the vehicle, he had admitted that the deceased was a friend of his and the police were able to get at the identity of the dead person that way.
The victim in fact was one 23 year old Chamila Kumara, a resident of Wellawaya. The police who went in search of his house and informed about this murder and then continued further investigations across his phone numbers and managed to obtain a report on the calls received by that number. At that point, a clue on the most frequent number of calls he had received close to the day of death was found and next the suspect to whom that number belonged to was located and thus the police took steps to interrogate him. He was a person of 37 years engaged in farming. When the police arrived, he had been frightened and had thus exposed everything to the police. What he said was that the deceased was a relative of his and that because of the relationship the ownership of a certain land was to be inherited by this boy, he had thought of committing this crime so that he could acquire the said land. During the confession he had revealed that on the day of the incident he had invited the boy for a drink and after he had come he had let the boy get 'high' after which he had taken him to the forest and killed him by stabbing him.
The suspect was expected to be produced before courts yesterday.
