Letters distribution in Colombo may come to a standstill owing to a drainage problem

It is reported that all letters in Fort, Maradana, Cinnamon Gardens,Kollupitiya, Grandpass areas are

despatched by a Postal Department office located in a building at Alcott Mawatha. In fact almost all letters in the Colombo area are handled and despatched by this office.

It is learnt that owing to a drainage problem the septic tanks underground have overflowed and as a result the facility of usage of toilets have been deprived.

The union authorities of the Postal Department have threatened that if the problem is not rectified they would resort to strike action. In that event the distribution of letters would come to a standstill.
